Dodd admits to bonus protection provision

This is how mad he acted before he remembered it was his fault

This is how mad he acted until he remebered it was his fault...or was it?

Chris Dodd has had a long, generally respectable career in politics (something difficult to do) he is chair of the powerful senate banking comittee and one of the more active democrats in the senate. For over a week Fox News has been claiming that the bonus loophole was Dodd’s doing (sorry for doubting you Fox, I’ll stop when you stop giving me reason). After stating as recently as yesterday that he had no idea how the AIG bonus protection provision got into the bill, Dodd came forward today admitting to writting the loophole. He claimed it was added at the behest of the Obmama administration over fears of legal battles stemming from the bill.

I can understand the motives for loophole inclusion, I can understand why the American people are upset. I can’t understand why the senator,my senator Chris Dodd had to lie about. Sure its embarrasing to be so controlled by a corperation that you’re afraid to regulate public money given to it. But isn’t it at least a little bit worse to get caught lying about it?

Update: Apparently Barak Obama wants to keep up his “responable guy” image enough to take the blame for this incident. At a town hall meeting Obama commented just an hour after Dodd’s admission:

“We didn’t draft these contracts. We’ve got a lot on our plate. But it is appropriate when you’re in charge to make sure stuff doesn’t happen like this”.

The confirmation problems, the bailout porkand now this–individually they seem like managable problems, in many ways the Washington norm– but will eventually these will add up the American people’s mind.
